Katherine Brabon in conversation with Angela Savage
Stella Prize listed author Katherine Brabon (Cure, Body Friend) returns with Cure, a moving novel exploring the complexities of illness, identity and the mother-daughter bond. She joins award-winning author and advocate Angela Savage for an intimate conversation about writing the body and much more.

Jacinta Halloran in conversation with Inala Cooper
Jacinta Halloran, a local author and former GP, will be discussing resistance, responsibility and what it means to care – personally and politically – with writer and advocate Inala Cooper. Jacinta will be discussing her new book Resistance, which will be available for sale and signing on the day.
Stick around for light refreshments served after each session.

Lineup

Katherine Brabon is an author based in Naarm/Melbourne. Her latest novel, Body Friend, was shortlisted for the Stella Prize.

Angela Savage is an award-winning writer and CEO of Public Libraries Victoria. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing, giving her the Bond villain-like name of Doctor Savage. Angela recently co-edited Spinning Around: The Kylie Playlist, an anthology inspired by Kylie Minogue songs.

Jacinta Halloran is the author of the novels Dissection, shortlisted for the 2007 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for an Unpublished Manuscript; Pilgrimage, shortlisted for the 2014 Barbara Jefferis Award; The Science of Appearances (2016) and Resistance (2023). She is a former board member of the Stella Prize, and was a GP for many years.

Inala Cooper is a Yawuru woman and Director of Murrup Barak at University of Melbourne. She is the author of Marrul: Aboriginal Identity and the Fight for Rights and most recently authored a chapter in Dhoombak Goobgoowana Volume 2: Voice. Inala has presented at academic conferences across Australia and internationally including Native American and Indigenous Studies Association (NAISA), and World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education (WIPCE). In 2022 she was President of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Higher Education Consortium (NATSIHEC).
Inala has a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Human Rights Law. She is a regular contributor on ABC’s News Breakfast (and The Drum) and has appeared at a range of literary events including Sorrento Writers Festival and Adelaide Writers Week. Inala is a director on numerous not-for-profit boards including State Library Victoria and the Adam Briggs Foundation.
