Who Am I If Nobody is Looking?
Enters stage, walks to center stage
‘Who are we when no one is watching?
“When the lights turn off,
And it’s our turn to settle down,”
Who are we?
When no one else is around,
Are we anybody?
Or are we nobody
Without other bodies?
When the sun is down
Moon behind a cloud
When no eyes are on us
And the cameras are off
Is it then we are ourselves?
Then we are ourselves
Not through another’s lens
Because different eyes
See different things
So someone’s view of you
Isn’t, really, always you
Just a part of the whole
Or not even a part, at all
Because how one seems
When a mirror is held up
Is just a reflection
Of something real
So aren’t we the same person?
When no one is watching
Just sitting in
Watching from, the inside.
And there is no facade
No double vision
Just wholeness,
With ourselves,
And after a while
Alone, with ourselves
We begin,
To know ourselves
Know, who we are
Whether they’re watching
Or not
And when we know ourselves
We want others to know ourselves
Those that knew us
Before we knew ourselves
And know us better than we
Have ever known ourselves
Even now
So, we share
And talk and shout and cry
So that we can show
As best as possible
The ourselves, we know
And be loved
And learn others selves
And, in turn, love them’
